Obituary of Erika Boeck
Erika Boeck, an energetic and independent woman, passed away after a short illness at the Sawtellle Hospice House in Reading on Monday evening, November 17, 2008. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Boeck was born and raised in the town of Werder, in Northern Germany. Her family managed to endure the hardships of World War II, when food was scarce and helping their Jewish neighbors was extremely dangerous. In 1957, seeking a better life for their children, her family immigrated first to Toronto Canada and five years later to the United States. They resided in Woburn for 2 years before settling in Burlington in 1964.
Mrs. Boeck’s upbringing made her a strong and independent woman, who accepted life’s disappointments, like loosing her husband at age 49, and continuing to provide for her family. She had worked as a Financial Secretary as BASF in Bedford. She was a talented seamstress and would make her family’s clothing. She enjoyed knitting and shared her talent with family, friends, and those less fortunate than herself. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She took pride in maintaining her home, yard, and garden. She appreciated nature and wildlife. She loved all types of music. She was a strong believer in a healthy lifestyle. She walked, worked around her home, exercised at the Council on Aging, and kept a healthy diet.
Mrs. Boeck was the wife of the late Kurt Bruno Boeck. She was the mother of Brigitte McNulty of Needham and Sabine Boeck of Somerville. She was the grandmother of Melanie Shubow of Somerville and great grandmother of Shawn Barton. Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, November 20 at Noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Erika’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
