Obituary of John Cenci
John D. Cenci, owner of Cenci’s Bakery, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Saturday evening, November 22, 2008. He was 75 years old.
John was born in Medford, the son of the late Americo and Jane (Lowry) Cenci. He grew up in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Corporal. His family founded Cenci’s Bakery in 1957 and owned and operated the store until 2000. The bakery was a 7-day a week career and they had many loyal customers and friends. The store was a landmark in the community for over 40 years and they were extremely generous to the town of Burlington. It was a warm, friendly family style of business. Cenci’s’s delicious homemade cakes, pastries, breads, and donuts made it a favorite destination for the residents of Burlington and the neighboring communities. For the past 5 years, John had been working at the Café Escadrille as a Pastry Chef, making their rolls, pies, and cookies.
John led a full and active life. He was an avid golfer and belonged to a golf league at the Billerica Country Club. He enjoyed golfing with his grandson A. J. He loved the ocean and enjoyed talking trips to Maine. John also played and sponsored a softball team and was a member of the Middlesex Merchant Softball league for 25 years.
John is the beloved husband of 55 years of Elaine H. (Palermo). He is the loving father of Lori Cenci of CA, Ellie Mastrullo & her husband Tony of Billerica, and Nan Beard & her husband Lou of Burlington. He is the grandfather of Kim Valente & her husband Louie of Dracut, A.J. Mastrullo of Billerica, and Alek Beard of Burlington. John is the great grandfather of Louie and Domenic Valente. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Memorials in John’s name may be made to the Lahey Clinic, c/o Philanthropy, 41 Mall Rd, Burlington, MA 01805.
