Obituary of Alfonse Zajac

Alfonse J. Zajac, a resident of Burlington and The Villages in FL passed on Tuesday evening, December 16, 2008. The husband of Virgie (Westbrook), he was 81 years old. Al was born and raised in Chelsea. He was one of ten children born to the late Walter and Marianna Zajac. He attended Polish School in Chelsea until the tenth grade when he left school to go work and help provide for his family. Al was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the Army Air Force where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. After leaving the Army Al attended MIT where he earned his electrical license. He worked at the Peter Bent Brigham/Brigham & Woman’s hospital for 42 years. Al’s responsibility at the hospital was to ensure that the New Towers had enough electrical power in the ICU to run all the equipment in case of a code. Al loved gardening. He was an avoid golfer who was on his Fourth “Hole In One” at the time of his death. Al is the beloved husband of 39 years of Virgie (Westbrook). He is the loving father of Stacy Schnepel & her husband Fred of Billerica, Keith Zajac & his wife Malennda of Hudson, NH and Gayle Zajac of Raleigh, NC. Grandfather of Nicholas, Brendon & Jaden Schnepel & Jacquelyn Russell. He is the brother of John Zajac and Helen Jakusiac both of Chelsea. Al is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, Dec. 19 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Al’s name may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg, 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
