Obituary of Robert Atwood

Robert P. Atwood, Vice President of Precision Systems in Natick, passed away after a lengthy illness at his home with his family at his bedside on Sunday afternoon, July 1, 2012. He was 76 years old. Bob was born in Quincy, the son of the late Reginald and Sarah Atwood. He was a graduate of the Good Will Hinckley School. Since 1889, the Good Will Hinckley School’s mission was to provide a home and helping hand for young people and families. The organization has helped more than 6,000 youth from Maine and other states. Bob’s high school experience was so rewarding and life changing, that he later became a member of the School’s Board of Directors “Goodwill Home Association”. He would further his education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Northeastern University. Bob was one of the first employees at Precision Systems in Natick, which design and manufacture freezing point osmometers and cryoscopes. The small company feeling along with customer oriented services and products fit very well with Bob’s way of doing business. He loved his work, coworkers, and their many longtime loyal customers. He worked all the way until his passing as their purchasing agent and Vice President. Outside of work, Bob had a varying degree of interests and activities. He was an avid Beekeeper and member of the Essex County Beekeepers Association. The fruits of his hard work, “Honey”, he shared with his many family and friends. He was a member of the Waltham Stamp Club. Bob loved to travel and had visited 49 of the 50 States. He was extremely handy around the home and was often referred to as “Mr. Fix It”. Bob enjoyed keeping current with technology and computers. He had a warm and outgoing personality and a big heart. He often was the volunteer driver for the Red Hatters, so much so that that made him an honorary member. Bob will be remembered for his keen mind, hard work ethic, strong ideals, wit and humor, and devotion to those he loved. Bob was the loving companion of 30 years of Gail Wolfe of Woburn. He was the father of Michael Atwood of Springfield, John Atwood & his wife Debra Snow of Andover, and Elizabeth Atwood of Chicopee. He was also survived by Gail’s son Justin Moore & his wife Taylor. He was the grandfather of Bryan Atwood & his wife Veena of Houston TX and Nicholas & Jack Atwood of Andover. He was the brother of Ellen O’Moore of Maine and Peter Chase of Texas. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington, MA (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday July 5 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Burial service will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, 1 Oak Grove Ave, Bath ME on Friday July 6, 2012 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name may be made to Sophia Gordon Cancer Center c/o Lahey Clinic philanthropy department, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.
