Obituary of Paul Smith
Paul H.”Smitty” Smith passed away after a long battle with cancer at the Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell on Monday morning, February 9, 2009. He was 68 years old.
Paul was born in Winchester. He grew up in Burlington. He attended St. Charles Elementary School and was a graduate of Burlington High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in October of 1957. He held the rank of Airman First Class and worked as a crypto operator. Paul had worked for a number of companies over his lifetime. He started with M/A-COM in Burlington. He then moved to Purity Supreme where he worked for many years in the warehouse. He moved to Home Depot when they opened their doors in Tewksbury 15 years ago. He worked as a Special Services Expeditor. He had many friends whom he remained friendly with at each of the companies he has worked for.
Paul had a number of interests. He played golf on occasion and was an avid reader. He always looked forward to going on vacation. Rutland Vermont, Nashville and New Orleans were some of his most favorite destinations to visit. He enjoyed getting in his car and going on day trips. One of his favorite hobbies was that of camping. He started tent camping and eventually became the owner of a motor home. He enjoyed the many special times spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends sitting around a campfire or campsite sharing memories that will be forever cherished. Paul had a special group of high school friends that he stayed in touch with throughout his lifetime. Paul had a fondness for dogs most especially his beloved dog “Angel”. He will be lovingly remembered.
Paul was the beloved husband of Cindy (Mandarano) Smith of Lowell. He was the loving father of Pamela Case & her husband Dinny of Flower Mound, TX, Shawn & his wife Lucille of Saco, ME, and Rachel Nolan & her husband Daniel of Goffstown, NH. He was the son of Harold Smith of Burlington and the late Eleanor “Dolly” Smith. He was the brother of Edward of Winchester, Elaine Stewart of Burlington, Carol Keene of Burlington, Gerard “Jerry” of Wilmington and the late Eleanor “Ellie” McKeon. He was the grandfather of Cody, Brennan, Justin, Tyler, Emmah and Brooke.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul’s name may be made to the Saints Memorial Cancer Center, 1 Hospital Drive, Lowell, MA 01852.
