Obituary of Hilda Costa

Hilda C. (Amaral) Costa, a resident of Burlington for over 45 years, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2009. The wife of the late Joseph R. Costa, she had celebrated her 87th birthday on Monday. Hilda was born on the Island of St. Michael in the Azores. She was the daughter of the late Anton and Marianna Amaral. Hilda and her family moved to the United States when she was a young child. She lived in Cambridge and Somerville before she and her husband settled in Burlington in 1962. Hilda worked for 24 years at Marshalls Dept. Store in Bedford where she was the Head of the Children’s Department. She retired in 1997. She enjoyed working in her garden and yard. She also loved to shop. Before her health began to decline she was a member of the Senior Center where she participated in many of their activities. Hilda’s family was the center of her life. She was blessed to have four wonderful grandchildren that she spent many special times with. She will be lovingly remembered. Hilda is the beloved wife of the late Joseph R. She is the loving mother of Robert J. Costa & his wife Janet of Burlington and Kenneth P. Costa & his wife Betsy of Bedford, NH. She is the loving grandmother of Kristen A. and Lauren J. of Burlington, Eric M. and Nicole A. of Bedford, NH. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 5-8 p.m. Interment in Cambridge Cemetery. Memorials in Hilda’s name may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 & Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 60 Walnut St., Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
