Obituary of John Ivas

John S. Ivas, Sr. a resident of Burlington for 46 years, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Wednesday morning, February 25, 2009. The husband of Irene (McGahan) he was 76 years old. John was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester. He was the son of Lithuanian immigrants the late John and Eleanor Ivas. He was a graduate of Boston Trade High School. John had a successful career in the Printing Industry. He worked for many years at Nimrod Press in Boston as a Printer. He then went on to work as a Salesman for printing products at DM Products in Rockland. John had a passion for printing. He was a member of The Museum of Printing in North Andover where he had the position of Vice President. He was also a member of the Boston Craftsman Club. He was the recipient of the prestigious “Ben Franklin Award” which recognizes excellence in the Printing Industry. John shared his knowledge of the printing industry by volunteering his time to some of the local technical schools in the area such as Minuteman in Lexington and Shawsheen in Billerica. He was also involved in the community of Burlington. He was a member of the Grandview Farm Committee and was a Town Meeting Member for many years John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather that will be deeply missed. John is the beloved husband of Irene (McGahan). Loving father of Elizabeth Coots & her husband Richard of Melrose and the late John S. Ivas, Jr. He is the father-in-law of Trudy Ivas of Tewksbury. He is the brother of Susan Baxevanis of North Eastham, MA. He is also predeceased by 6 brothers and sisters. He is the grandfather of Renee Petrocelli, Jeffrey Coots, Jennifer Ivas, John Ivas, Jennie Hartley & Brian Hoadley and great grandfather of Joey Petrocelli. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, March 2 at 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 12 Noon. Visiting hours Sunday 12 Noon – 4 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in John’s name may be made to Davita Burlington Regional Dialysis, 31 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.
