Obituary of Diane Martin

Diane K. (Demas) Martin, a teacher and animal advocate, passed away after a long illness at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Saturday morning, April 11, 2009. She was 66 years old. Diane was born in Boston, the daughter of Albanian immigrants, the late Kiriakos and Sofika Demas. She grew up in Dorchester. She was a graduate of the Jeremiah E. Burke High School and Boston State College. She had worked as a teacher for the Boston Public Schools and the Charlestown Community School. She received great satisfaction cultivating children and young adult’s desire for knowledge and self esteem. Diane had a deep love for animals. She had a great affection for cats and dogs. She was an avid bird watcher. She was a faithful supporter of animal shelters. Diane also enjoyed reading and cooking. She had resided in Burlington for the past 40 years. Diane cherished the time spent with her family and had an extremely close and caring relationship with her daughter, Laura. She will be lovingly remembered by all. Diane was the loving mother of Laura A. Martin of Malden. She was the sister of Nicholas Demas of Naperville, IL, Anita Orr of Enfield, CT, and the late Victoria Dionis. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, April 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Followed by a Funeral Home Service beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of Flowers, memorials in Diane’s name may be made to the Ahimsa Haven Animal Rescue, P.O.
