Eleanor “Dolly” L. (McNamara) Smith, a life long resident of Burlington, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Sunday morning, May 28, 2006. She was 90 years old. She is the loving wife of 68 years of Harold R. Smith. Dolly was born and raised in Burlington. She was born in the family homestead in Burlington to the late John J. and Anna McNamara. Dolly attended elementary school in Burlington. Since the town of Burlington did not have a high school, so when it came time for her to attend high school she went to Lexington High. Dolly worked for many years in Burlington school system as a custodian. Dolly and her husband Harold were the caretakers of the Historical Francis Wyman House in Burlington for 25 years. She took great pleasure in sharing the history the Francis Wyman Home and Town of Burlington. Dolly loved the outdoors. She enjoyed walking, hiking, and camping. Dolly and Harold could be seen walking together from their home on Birchcrest St. to Sammy’s in the Winnmere section of town daily to get the newspaper. She also enjoyed playing bingo. Dolly’s family was most important to her and she was blessed to have spent many special times with her husband, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dolly is the beloved wife of 68 years of Harold R. Smith. She is the loving mother of the Paul & his wife Cindy of Lowell, Edward & his wife Linda of Winchester, Elaine & her husband Richard Stewart of Burlington, Carol & her husband Fred Keene of Burlington, Gerard “Jerry” & his wife Theresa of Wilmington and the late Eleanor “Ellie” McKeon. Sister of Claire Wyman of Winchester, Viola Dorothy McNamara of Burlington and the late Anna Ramsdell, William, John, Irving, Charles and Lawrence McNamara. Mother-in-law of Raymond McKeon of Nashua, NH. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, June 1 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Oak Grove cemetery, Medford.
