Obituary of Leo Govoni

Leo J. Govoni, a resident of Burlington for over 71 years, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Thursday, July 12, 2012. The beloved husband of Kathleen “Kay” (Rogers) he was 83 years old. Leo was born in Chelsea. He was the son of the late Leo & Ernestine Govoni. He lived in Chelsea until he was 12 years old and then his family moved to Burlington. Leo was a 1947 graduate of Burlington High School. Leo was a Veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Ribbon 3 Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He had a career as a Machinist working for Varian and Polaroid. Leo was a handy person and could fix anything. He loved to garden with his tomato plants being his specialty. Leo’s family was the center of his life. They enjoyed vacations together at Tucker Pond in Warner, NH. He also enjoyed taking trips with his wife Kay to Florida and North Carolina. Leo was a loving husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. Leo was the beloved husband of Kathleen “Kay” M. (Rogers). He was the loving father of Leo J. Govoni & his wife Jane of Clearwater, FL, Mark J. Govoni of Warner, NH & his late wife Patricia and Carolyn Alessi & her husband Tom of Burlington. Leo was the brother of the late Marjorie Larkin, Louise Nelson and Rita Virgin. Grandfather of Leo J., Caitlin, Marc & Peter Govoni, Kris Daniels, and Victoria, Alexander & Isabella Alessi. Great Grandfather of Riley & Josie Daniels. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, July 16 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Followed by Graveside Services at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody at 2:00 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
