Obituary of David Murphy

David J. Murphy, a retired Lieutenant for the Billerica Fire Department, passed away at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 70 years old. David was born, raised, and educated in Melrose. He was the son of the late Michael and Freida Murphy. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Dave and his family settled in Billerica in 1970. He worked as a Fire Fighter for the Billerica Fire Department for over 25 years retiring in 2004. He was stationed at Pinehurst Engine 3. Dave had a passion for golf and hunting. He was a member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks No. 2071 . Dave was very handy. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix or build from something as large as building a family room in his home or something as simple as fixing a toaster or hairdryer. Dave will be missed by his family and his many friends. Dave was the beloved husband of Sheila (Murray) and the late Judith (McGrail). He was the loving father of Kevin of CA and Susan Hurton & her husband Michael of Middleton. He was the brother of Janice Joyce & her late husband Fred of Saugus, Donna Klei & her husband Robert of OH. He was the devoted grandfather of Julia, Jack & Paige Hurton. Dave is also survived by his extended family Gregg & Susan Boari of Burlington and their children Drew, Amanda, Sarah and Ryan; Michael & Sandra Coughlin of Wolfeboro, NH and their children Amanda, Rory, Patrick, Julia & Bridget; David & Tami Carpentiere of Meredith , NH and their children Anna and Will, who will truly miss their Grandpa Dave. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews & extraordinary friends. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, July 29 at 8 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Road, Billerica at 9 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
