Obituary of Barbara Whelan

Barbara A. (Caruso) Whelan passed away at her home, with her family at her bedside, on Tuesday evening, July 28, 2009. She was 63 years old. Barbara was born in Winthrop. She was raised and educated in Somerville. She married her husband, Patrick in November of 1965. She enjoyed being a homemaker and being an instrumental part of her children’s lives. She moved to Burlington 15 years ago and worked as an administrative assistant at Minuteman Senior Services in Burlington. Barbara was the beloved wife of over 43 years of Patrick J. Whelan of Burlington. She was the loving mother of Kimberly Daly & her husband Andrew of Medford, John Whelan & his wife Kerri of Methuen, Tony Whelan & his wife Jennifer of Danvers, Cindy McGaffigan & her husband James of Methuen, and Eric Whelan of Burlington. She was the daughter of Mary Caruso of Salisbury & the late Anthony Caruso. She was the devoted grandmother of Christopher & Nicholas Daly, James McGaffigan, III, Justin, Olivia, Jessica, Dylan, Daniel, and Ryan Whelan. She was the sister of Mary Valentino of Salisbury, Anthony Caruso of Medford, and John Caruso of Burlington. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington on Saturday, August 1 at 11:30 a.m. A memorial wake will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be private.
