Obituary of Florence Miller

Florence E. “Flossie” (Hurley) Miller, a resident of Burlington for 48 years, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Friday morning, August 28, 2009. The wife of the late John “Jack” Miller who passed away on July 12, 2009, she was 82 years old. Flossie was born and raised in Medford. She was one of 11 children born to the late John and Loretta Hurley. Flossie and Jack settled in Burlington in 1961 where they raised their four sons and became an active part of the community of Burlington. Flossie’s life was devoted to being a homemaker, wife, and mother. It would be true to say that behind every good man is a great woman and that could be said for Flossie. She faithfully supported her husband and her sons in their involvement in Burlington politics and sports. She was a faithful supporter of Burlington Baseball and Softball Association, Burlington Pop Warner Cheerleading coach, and Burlington High Booster Club. She was a supportive and caring mother to her four sons and was a proud grandmother and great grandmother. Flossie was the beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Miller. She was the loving mother of John “Jack” Miller of Woodland Park, CO, Kevin Miller of Townsend, Steven Miller of Londonderry, NH and Michael Miller of Ventura, CA. he ws the sister of Robert “Buddy” Hurley of Medford, Winifred White of Reading, Marie Myott of Medford, Phyllis McDonough of Pocasset, Mildred Thompson of Danvers, the late John, Peter, William, Helen, and Eugene Hurley. She was also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of Flowers memorials in Flossie’s name may be made to the Burlington Recreation Memorial Fund, Burlington Town Hall, 29 Center St., Burlington, MA 01803.
