Obituary of George Sharpe

George A. Sharpe, passed away at the Goddard House in Boston, following a brief illness, on Sunday morning, Sept. 13, 2009. The husband of the late Eleanor M. (Behnke) he was 92 years old. George was born, raised and educated in Cambridge. He was the son of the late Gustav and Lillian Sharpe. He was a graduate of Bentley College in Waltham. George lived for a brief period in Illinois before settling in Burlington in 1954 where he lived until 2007 when he moved to Boston. George had a successful career as a Traffic Manager and Production Coordinator in the Manufacturing Industry. George had an interest in music and loved the opera as well as going to the Theatre. He enjoyed food. George loved to cook as well as to go out to eat. His father Gustav was born in Sweden and George was proud of and had great interest in researching his Swedish heritage. He had traveled extensively with his family and had visited such locations as Egypt, Greece, Turkey and England to name a few. He was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational where he made many friendships. George moved to Boston in 2007 and lived in an apartment close to his daughter Donna. He had enjoyed living the last two years in the city and would take daily walks to the local supermarkets, to the local restaurant for lunch or to get the daily paper. George was blessed to have a wonderful life that spanned 92 years. He will be missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. George was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Behnke). He was the loving father of Sandra Couture & her husband Ron of Brookfield, Deborah Wicks & her husband Robert of Ipswich, and Donna Sharpe Stenwall of Boston & her late husband Tor Stenwall. He was the loving brother of the late Louise Crusco, Herbert, G. Daniel, and E. Irene Sharpe. He was the grandfather of David Couture & his wife Gretchen and Meredith Simmons all of Brookfield. He was the great grandfather of Willem, Isobel & Evan Couture and Matthew Simmons. Step-Grandfather of Kara LaMarche & her husband Jim of NH and Christopher Stenwall & his wife Gina of FL. He was the step- great-grandfather of Finn LaMarche. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Funeral Services will be private.
