Obituary of John Cronin

John Francis Cronin passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday night, September 18, 2009. He was 82 years old. John was born in Dorchester, the son of the late Mortimer, and Julia Cronin. He grew up and was educated in Dorchester. Being one of 10 children, his home was always full of life and excitement. He served in Army during WW II in the 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Division. He served from June of 1945 to February of 1947. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He returned home and worked for his father with his brothers at Cronin Brothers Inc, trucking company. He was a member of the Teamsters, Local 25. He had a strong work ethic and worked long hours to provide for his wife and 6 children. He settled in Burlington in 1963. During John’s retirement years, he enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. He really appreciated the free time of retirement. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, and shooting pool with his fellow retirees in Florida. He was devoted to his wife, Kathleen, who passed away on July 20, 2009. She was the center of his universe and soul mate of over 60 years. He was a caring father and proud grandfather and great grandfather. John’s passing saddens his family, but they are comforted by the thought that their parents are once again reunited. John was the loving husband of Kathleen Ann (Larkin) Cronin. He was the loving father of John J. Cronin & his wife Cheryl of Burlington, David Cronin of Burlington & duaghter-in-law Joanne of Billerica, Paul Cronin & his wife Allyson of Burlington, Colleen Lundgren & her husband William of Burlington, Kasey Cronin of Woburn, and Maureen Bousquert & her husband Brian of East Bridgewater. He was the loving grandfather of Jason, Zac, Nila, Matt, Kerrie, Krista, Paul II, Joseph, Billy, Emma, Joshua, and the late Nichole. He was the great grandfather of Siarra, Jayden, Makenna, Jacob, Jeyana and Zachary. He was the brother of Ann Moran of Rockland, the late Mary Davis, Kay Smith, Mortimer Cronin, Jr., Joseph, Neil, Timothy, Jewel, and Sr. Mary Eileen Cronin. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Pine Haven Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington on Wednesday Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
