Obituary of Charles Chicarello

Charles A. Chicarello, a retired Detective for the Burlington Police Department, passed away after a brief illness with his family at his side on Saturday evening, September 26, 2009. He was 68 years old. Charles was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Charles and Mary Chicarello. He grew up in Somerville and Lexington. He was a graduate of Lexington High School. Charles moved to Burlington in 1962. He became a member of the Burlington Police Department in 1968. He worked his way up from Patrolman to Detective. He retired in 2004. He continued to work part time with the Police Department up until 2 weeks ago. Over his long career, he received numerous awards and citations. Charles was a member of the Saint Anthony’s Society in the North End of Boston. He was a member of North Shore Corvette Club. He looked forward to spending the winter months in Naples Florida. His life revolved around his family. He took great pride in his family’s Italian heritage. He worked long hours to be able to good provider for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered. Charles was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen D. (Ranney). He was the loving father of Donna Spurrell & her husband Charlie of Billerica, Jim Chicarello of Tewksbury, Karen Phillips & her husband Jim of Tewksbury, and Debbie Chicarello of Lowell. He was the brother of Mary Ward & her husband Paul of Naples, FL and Elaine Ciesla & her husband Andy of Billerica. He was the proud grandfather of Alyssa, Tim, & Christopher Spurrell and Cassidy & Jake Phillips. He was the significant other of Joan Gordon of Burlington. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington, on Wednesday, September 30 at Noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours omitted. In lieu of flowers memorials in Charles name may be made to St. Anthony Society, 201-203 Endicott St., Boston, MA 02113 or Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 1332 North Halstead St., Suite 201, Chicago, IL 60642.
