Obituary of Marjorie Douglass
Marjorie R. (Harris) Douglas, a resident of Burlington for 45 years, passed away unexpectedly at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Thursday morning, October 1, 2009. The wife of the late Randall M. Douglass, Jr. she was 78 years old.
Marge was born in Boston. She was raised and educated in Medford. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ruth Harris. Marge and her husband moved to Burlington in 1964 where they raised their four children and became an active member of the community of Burlington. Marge worked for the Town of Burlington. She started as a switchboard operator and then became Secretary to the Office of the Selectman from which she retired. Marge was a woman of devout faith and was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, which was an important part of her life. She was on her second term as a member of the Vestry; which is the governing body of the church. She was also an active member of the Outreach Program. She was also a volunteer at the Winchester Hospital. She enjoyed canoeing with her children and their families on many of the lakes in New Hampshire. Marge enjoyed cooking; whether it be preparing a holiday dinner to be shared with her family or making cookies with her grandchildren. Marge touched many lives and will be lovingly remembered as woman filled with faith, love, and spirit.
Marge was the beloved wife of the late Randall M., Douglass, Jr. She was the loving mother of Steven J. Douglass & his partner Steven A. Troian of Somerville, Kenneth S. Douglass & his wife Terry of Billerica, Cheryl M. Douglass of Rowley, and the late Mark D. Douglass. She was the devoted grandmother of Jarrod C. Douglass & his companion Nicole Smith of Salem, Danielle S. Douglass of Wakefield, Bobbie C. Douglass of Burlington, and Jake Douglass & Kyle Douglass both of Billerica. Great grandmother of Aaron & Natalie Douglass and Marcus Smith.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 10 St. Mark’s Rd., Burlington on Monday, Oct. 5 at 12 Noon. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Marge’s name may be made to People Helping People, P. O. Box 343, Burlington, MA 01803.
