Obituary of Bernard Haney

Bernard “Bernie” F. Haney, a resident of Burlington for 35 years, passed away at his home on Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2009. The husband of Brenda J. (Rufo) for 47 years, he was 74 years old. Bernie was born in Berlin, NH. He was the son of the late Stanley & Alice Haney. He was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School. Bernie was retired from Millwright & Machinery Erectors of MA which specialized in turbine engine repairs and was a member of Local 1121. He was a member of the American Legion in Burlington as well as the Billerica Elks. Bernie was a talented repairman. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t repair from automobiles to lawnmowers and snow blowers. Bernie was the “go to” person at Christmas time putting together all the children’s gifts. He always looked forward to spending time together with his family at parties and special events. Bernie was blessed to have five grandsons that he was very proud of. Bernie was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend that will be lovingly missed. Bernie is the beloved husband of 47 years of Brenda J. (Rufo). He was the loving father of Lisa D. Cowles of Tewksbury, Lorri A. McAteer & her husband Gary of Tewksbury, Bernard “Bernie” F. Haney, Jr. & his girlfriend Kristen Lewis of Burlington. Brother of Bill Haney & his wife Maralynn of Lomper, CA, Mildred Phillips & her husband Robert of Uxbridge, James Haney of Fort Myers, FL, Susan Sylvia & her husband Frank of Nashua, NH, Linda Rainville & her husband James of Columbia, NH and the late Barbara Foster & her husband James Foster of Randolph. Grandfather of Ryan, Michael & Dylan McAteer, and Zachary & Jared Cowles. Son-in-law of Mary Ingemi of Somerville. Brother-in-law of Lorraine Rufo of Salem, NH, Anthony Rufo & his wife Kathleen of Weymouth, Jeanne Rufo-Huckins & her husband Douglas of Marshfield, Robert Ingemi of Somerville & William Ingemi of North Reading. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., BURLINGTON at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
