Obituary of Larry Howlett
Larry D. Howlett, a retired Electronics Technician, passed away after a long battle with cancer at his home on Tuesday morning, January 5 with his family at his side. He was 73 years old.
Larry was born in St. Louis, MO, the son of the later Carl and Eunice Howlett. He grew up and was educated in St. Louis, MO. He enlisted in the Marines in January of 1955 and served honorably until January of 1959. He earned the rank of Sergeant and specialized in Aviation Electronics. He left the military for several years only to reenlist with the Air Force. He was assigned to Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod. He would finish his military career with the Air Force and make Massachusetts his home, settling in Burlington 38 years ago. He would work for over 20 years at Draper Labs as an Electronics Technician. He tried retirement, but decided to go back to work at Zoll Medical in Chelmsford where he worked until he became ill. He enjoyed his work and coworkers.
Larry's interest included sports and his family. He was a self described sports fanatic. He followed all the Boston Professional and Collegiate Sports teams. He encouraged his children's interest in athletics as well. He was a Burlington Pop Warner Football coach and a girl's basketball coach. He made it a point to never miss any of his children's games, no matter what. He was married to his wife Pat for 38 years. He was a caring and loving husband. He was a supportive father and a proud grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered.
Larry was the beloved husband of Patricia L. (McGrath) Howlett of Burlington. He was the loving father of Stefanie L. Howlett of Somerville and Kevin Howlett & his wife, Lisa of Billerica. He was predeceased by his brother, Dana Howlett. He was the proud grandfather of Kyle A. Howlett. He is the son-in-law of Phyllis McGrath of Burlington.
A graveside service will be held at the Pine Haven Cemetery, 84 Bedford Street, Burlington on Friday, January 8 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry's name may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923, www.hns.org.
