Obituary of William Poirier

William A. Poirier, a successful auto dealership General Manager and devoted family man, passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 7, 2010 after suffering a massive stroke. He was just 50 years old. Bill was born in Melrose. He grew up in Billerica and was a 1979 graduate of Billerica High School. In high school he excelled in hockey, wrestling, and Golden Glove Boxing. He served in the Air Force achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. After he was discharged, he went to University of Lowell for his undergraduate degree. Bill was well known for his outgoing personality and great business skills. His career quickly rose from car salesman to General Manager. He had worked with Stoneham Ford, Kelly Infiniti, Ira Lexus, and R.C. Olsen Cadillac. He was currently working as the General Manager of Colonial Buick Pontiac GMC in Watertown. Over the years, Bill received numerous awards in achievements. He was well respected by his coworkers and customers and will be greatly missed. Bill was not the type of person who sat still. He worked hard in his career and made the most of his free time. He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed skiing, kayaking, bicycling, snowmobiling, jet skiing, and hiking. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He was a devoted husband and a supportive and caring father. He enjoyed sharing his love of sports with his son and daughter. He gave his family the opportunity to experience all sorts of exciting sports and activities. He was always in the stands supporting them in their sporting events and other activities. Although his life was tragically cut short, he leaves his family with a lifetime of memories and experiences. He will be lovingly remembered. Bill was the beloved husband of Lisa M. (Collins) Poirier. He was the loving father of Jessica and William A. “Billy” Poirier, II. He was the son of Arthur and Joan Poirier of Las Vegas, NV. He was the brother of Debra of Lewiston, ME and Steven of Bridgewater. He was the son-in-law of John “Bud” Collins of Somerville and the late Carole Collins. He was the brother-in-law of John Collins and his wife Linda of N. Attleboro and Rita-Marie Auble & her husband Michael of Burlington and uncle of Steven Poirier, Ashley Bemis, Shannon Collins, Megan Collins, and Zachary Auble. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
