Obituary of Salvatore Vaudo

Salvatore Vaudo, owner of Sal’s Beauty Salon in Burlington, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday morning, Aug. 2, 2012. Sal had just celebrated his 82 birthday on July 27. Sal was born and raised in Gaeta, Italy. He was one of 7 children born to the late Cosmo and Maria Civita Vaudo. Sal came to the United States in 1956 at the age of 25. He worked as a Meat Cutter in the North End of Boston for 6 years before going to Mansfield Beauty Academy. He was the owner of Sal’s Beauty Salon for over 45 years. Sal’s first opened the shop in the “four corners” section of Woburn where he worked for 15 years and eventually moving the salon to Cambridge St., in Burlington. Sal and his wife Marie lived in Somerville when they first married. They then moved to Burlington in 1966 where they raised their 3 children. Sal led a full and active life. He had a garden in his home where he grew vegetables and flowers. He took pride in his garden and was always sharing his vegetables with his friends and family. Sal was a regular visitor to the Senior Center in Burlington. He participated in daily exercise, played cards and just enjoyed being with his many friends. He had taken multiple trips back to Italy to visit his family and also loved an occasional day trip to Foxwoods. He was a huge Red Sox fan and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Sal was every close to his three children. He and his two sons, Sal and David, had annual traditions of making wine together, and hunting on Thanksgiving morning, events that they looked forward to each year. He worked side by side with his daughter Marianne at the Beauty Shop for many years. Sal’s greatest role in life was that of “Papa” to his 7 grandchildren who brought so much joy to his life. Sal will be remembered for his outgoing and friendly personality and love of family. > Sal was the beloved husband of Marie (DiDomenico). Loving father of Marianne Malvarosa & her husband Stanley of Woburn, Salvatore Vaudo Jr. of Methuen, and David Vaudo & his wife Alicia of Burlington. Brother of Salvino of Italy and the late Vincenzo, Jeannette, Maria, Raymond, Damiano. Devoted and proud grandfather of Giuliana & Francesca Malvarosa, Jess, Beau, Nicholas, Skyla & Lucas Vaudo. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 3-6 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
