Obituary of John Souza
John C. Souza, a resident of Burlington for 34 years, passed away at the Mass General Hospital in Boston on Sunday afternoon, April 11, 2010. He was 71 years old.
John was born in Boston. He was the son of Portuguese immigrants the late Charlie and Mary Theresa Souza. He was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. John worked for over 40 years at the Goddess Bra Company in Boston as the Director of Shipping and Receiving. After his retirement he worked for 10 years as a Salesperson at the Expo Design Center in Burlington. John led a full and active life. He enjoyed his home and his neighborhood. He liked to work in his yard and took pride in it. He was always helping out his neighbors whether it was mowing their lawn or snow blowing their driveway. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching the games together with his daughter Judy. He loved antique cars and enjoyed this passion with his son Michael and Michael’s partner Marc. John took great enjoyment in spending time with grandson John. He was the assistant coach of his grandson’s little league baseball team and they also enjoyed going fresh water fishing together. John was a devote Catholic and a parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church in Burlington where he was an Usher at the 7:30 p.m. Mass for over eight years. He took pride in his role as an Usher and would arrive early before each Mass to make sure the lights were on and the doors were open. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
John was the beloved husband of 54 years of Maria (DiMare). He was the loving father of Michael Souza & his partner Marc Furtado of Ipswich and Judy Souza of Burlington. He was the devoted grandfather of John Garber of Burlington. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, April 15 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, BURLINGTON.
