Obituary of Edward Sousa
Edward J. Sousa passed away suddenly at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Saturday night, April 10, 2010. He was 58 years old. Ed was born in Boston the son on the late Edward and Dorothy Sousa. He grew up in Burlington and was a graduate of Burlington High School Class of 1969. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was very proud of his service to his country and was even prouder to see his son enlist in the Marines. He had made Woburn his home for the past 30 years. He worked as an iron worker and was a member of Local 7. Over the years, he worked on countless construction projects including; buildings, bridges, and the Big Dig Tunnel. He had just recently retired.
Ed enjoyed his family, friends, and pursuing his interests. He enjoyed boating and had both motor and sail boats. One of his boats was named R N R after his 2 daughters, Rebecca and Rachel, and son, Ned. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending vacations on Cape Cod with his family and friends. He enjoyed doing yard work, especially with his grandson Matthew. He grew up working on cars with his father and had an enthusiasm for sports cars and convertibles. He was extremely proud of all his children’s achievements and activities. He was proud of his daughter Rachel’s success in hockey at Woburn High School and at University of Massachusetts, Boston. He leaves his family and friends with many lasting memories and will be greatly missed.
Edward was the husband of Miriam L. (Keniston) Sousa. He was the father of Sgt. Edward C. “Ned” Sousa, USMC, deployed in Afghanistan, Rebecca and Rachel Sousa both of Woburn. He was the father-in-law of Michelle Sousa of Woburn and grandfather of Matthew Edward Sousa of Wobuen. He was the brother of Dorothy “Dorrie” Burns & her husband William of Chelmsford and Janet Crowley of Colorado Springs, CO. Uncle of Christine Fitzgerald, Janet Turner, William Burns, Matthew Crowley, and the late Peter Crowley.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, April 17 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
