Obituary of John Hanafin

John “Jack” Hanafin, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, June 27, 2006. He was 78 years old. Jack was born in Boston, the son of the late Cornelius and Margaret Hanafin. He grew up and was educated in the Mission Hill section of Boston. He excelled in Football, basketball, and baseball. He went onto to play semi pro football. His passion for sports continued through out his life. He worked as a general contractor and owned H & H Builders. He had resided in Burlington for 39 years before moving to Marshfield and then Dennis. He had come back to Burlington for the last year to be closer to his family. Jack is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid reader. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He cherished his family and took pride in being a good provider. He was proud of his daughters and treasured the time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Jack is the beloved husband of Shirley L. (Salimeno) Hanafin. He is the loving father of Laure & her husband Mark Johnston of Tucson, AZ and Lorna & her husband Todd Damon of Burlington. He is the brother of William Hanafin of Roslindale, Charles Hanafin of Burlington, Helen Dignan of Burlington, Catherine “Kitty” Provost of Nashua, NH, the late Connie, George, and Jim Hanafin. He is the loving grandfather of Amanda & Taylor Johnston and Casey & Jack Damon. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, June 30 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
