Obituary of Barbara Doherty
Barbara A. Doherty leaves a legacy of kindness, love, and family, passed away at her home surrounded by all her family on Sunday night, August 5, 2012. She was 78 years old.
Barbara was born in Cambridge. She was the daughter of the late Doris and Blair Keith Morris. She grew up in Cambridge and was a graduate of Cambridge High School. She was an extremely hard working and selfless woman raising 6 children and also working. Over the years, she had worked as an assembler at Carrfastener in Cambridge, Dynatech and Dyano in Burlington, and Phil’s Fine Foods as a cook. Phil’s Fine Foods was a Catering truck and was by far her most challenging job; preparing meals in the food truck, while her son Brian did the driving, counter sales, and helped with the food preparation. They worked long hours, in the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter but enjoyed the challenges and the opportunity to work together.
Barbara had a heart of gold. She was always there to support her family and friends. She was the caretaker for her family throughout her life. She unselfishly took care of her parents, siblings, husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. If there was someone who needed a helping hand, Barbara was there for them. Her home was the gathering point for all her family and their friends and her door was always open for them to come and go. Holidays, family gatherings and celebrations were always held Barbara’s home. She enjoyed spending her later years at the Lynnfield Senior Center where she had a great circle of friends. She loved going out to eat with her friends, whom the referred to themselves as the “Lunch Bunch.” She enjoyed day trips to Foxwoods and evenings playing Bingo. She loved going on vacations with family and friends. When her children were younger, the trips were to Disney World and then she found she loved cruises. She went on well over 20 Royal Caribbean Cruises with her last being June of this year. She knew all the hidden secrets on board and was a great traveling companion. She made the most of her life never forgetting those she loved and cared for. Barbara’s passing will leave an void in the hearts of all that her life touched.
Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Philip F. Doherty. She was the loving mother of Paul Doherty of Billerica, Karen Carter of Burlington, Joyce Surette of Burlington, Brian Doherty of Billerica, Nancy Carragher of Newmarket, NH, and Jill Papsedero of Billerica. She was the sister of the late Blair “Sonny”, Malcolm, and Ford Morris. She was the loving Aunt of Jerri Ellen Esteban of KS and best friend of Millie Connatser of Peabody and Inge Melchiono of Burlington. She was the loving grandmother of Gloria, Nicole, Philip G., Peter , Jessica, Heather, Geoffrey, Christina, Philip M., Michael, Joey, Alyssa, Erika, Kelsey, and Brian Jr. She was also survived by 6 great grandchildren.
