Obituary of Elvira Marion Spence
Elvira Marion (Crawford) Spence passed away at her home on Saturday morning, July 1, 2006. The beloved wife of 59 years of Albert T. “Bud” Spence, she was 84 years old.
Mrs. Spence was born in Burlington. She was the daughter of Irish Immigrants the late Thomas W. & Mary Crawford. Mrs. Spence grew up on the Crawford Family Farm, which was located at the time on Beacon Street in Burlington. When she first started high school there was no high school in Burlington so her first three years she attended Lexington High. She then transferred to the new Burlington High and was a member of the first graduating class of 1942. She then went to attend Burdett in Boston. Prior to her marriage she worked as a Bookkeeper in the financial district in Boston as well as for Mass Gear & Tool in Woburn.
Mrs. Spence and her husband Bud settled in Woburn. She devoted her life to creating a loving home for her husband and five children. She also became involved in the Spence family business “Spence Farms” where she worked in Retail Sales and Bookkeeping. Mrs. Spence had a very full and active life. She was an Editor of Country Magazine and wrote several articles for the magazine. She and her husband traveled extensively with Tour Groups. They traveled throughout the United States, Europe, and South America. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, quilting, cooking and baking. Mrs. Spence was also an active member of the Church of the Open Bible. She would send care packages and letters to her grandchildren along with other young adults from the Church of the Open Bible that were attending college. Mrs. Spence was a loving, giving, and caring woman who will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Mrs. Spence demonstrated Christ's likeness to her family and friends and had a passion to let other people know her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Spence is the beloved wife of Albert T. “Bud”. She is the loving mother of Thomas W. & his wife Elizabeth D. of North Reading, Nancy J. & her husband the Rev. Gary G. Dull of Altoona, PA, Terre E. Root of Woburn & her husband the late G. Wayne Root, Barry A. “Buzz” of Woburn, and Trina M. & her husband the Rev. Kevin L. Mayfield of Ecuador, South America. She is the sister of Jean Callahan of Burlington and the late Fred Crawford. She is the grandmother of Victoria & Alexandra Spence, Thomas, Michael & Charles Dull, Tara Chapman, Trina Conley, Wayne & Thomas Root, Jerelyn, Jessica, Juliann & Jeffrey Mayfield. She is also survived by 9 Great Grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Open Bible, 3 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, July 7 at 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
