Obituary of Jean Hillis

Jean E. (Crogan) Hillis, a lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away at the Wakefield Care & Rehabilitation Center on Monday evening, May 3, 2010. The wife of the late Maurice F. Hillis, she was 79 years. Jean was born in Marlborough. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Hill. She was raised and educated in Burlington and was a graduate of Burlington High Class of 1949. She became engaged to her husband Maurice in 1953 and they married in 1956. They remained living in her family home on Carter Road where they raised their four sons. Jean devoted her life to her husband and her children. After her children where older she worked for 12 years at the Brunswick Bowling Alley in Burlington as the Program Director. Jean loved children and would do Child Care for neighbors and friends. She was affectionately known as the “Mother of Carter Road”. She enjoyed camping in the White Mountains with her husband and sons and in later years with her sons and their families. Christmas was Jean’s favorite time of year. She loved decorating both the inside and outside of her home with Christmas decorations. She opened her home each Christmas Season for an Open House that included family, friends, and neighbors. Jean will be lovingly missed by her sons, grandchildren, neighbors and friends. Jean was the beloved wife of the late Maurice F. Hillis. She was the loving mother of John Hillis, Sr. of Medford, Matthew Hillis & his wife Eileen of Auburn, Maurice E. Hillis, Jr. & his wife Denise of Medford, and Scott Hillis & his wife Linda of Stoneham. She was the devoted grandmother of Nicole, Amanda, Kristina, Maureen, John Jr., Joshua, Alissandra, Juliana, Nicholas, Kyleigh, James and the late Jesse. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON on Friday, May 7 at 12 Noon. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Jean’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
