Obituary of Susan Cooper-Garrity
Mary “Susan” Cooper-Garrity, a loving mother and wife passed away after a long battle with brain tumors at the Marlborough Hills Health Care Center in Marlborough on Wednesday afternoon, June 9, 2010. Susan was only 54 years old.
Susan was born in Leland, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Dock and Susan Cooper. Her father, who served in Air Force for 30 plus years, moved the family from base to base. Susan had the opportunity to live in Mississippi, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, France, and Scotland, prior to the family settling in Burlington when Susan was in 8th grade. She was a graduate of Burlington High School Class of 1974 and University of Massachusetts, Boston, Class of 1978 where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with degrees in History and English. She worked as a writer/creative director in a number of advertising firms and towards the end of her career worked as freelance writer. Her dream was to write a children’s book.
Susan loved being with her family. She appreciated doing the simple things like driving her daughter to school, play dates with the kids, bed time stories, arts and crafts, or any other activity with her daughter Sam. She loved going to the beach. She could immerse herself in books for hours. She will be lovingly remembered.
Susan was the beloved wife of 20 years of Stephen E. Garrity. She was the loving mother of Samantha Garrity of Berlin. She was the sister of George Reid Cooper of Burlington, Sadie Ross of Scotland, and the late Patrolman James V. Cooper Burlington Police Department and loving aunt to 11 nephews and nieces. Susan will be dearly missed by her family, friends and pets.
Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, June 15 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
