Obituary of Anthony Lipizzi

Anthony J. “Tony” Lipizzi passed away at his home unexpectedly on Friday evening, June 11, 2010. The husband of the late Theresa (Baptista) he was 80 years old. Tony was born in Boston. He was the son of Italian immigrants the late Michael and Marie Lipizzi. He was raised and educated in East Boston. Tony was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Army where he achieved the rank of SGT. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and the UN Service Medal. Tony and his wife settled in Burlington in 1963 where he lived until 1997 when he moved to Woburn. Tony was an extremely hard working man who took pride in providing for his family. Until his retirement he always worked two jobs. He worked at the U. S. Post Office in South Boston for 25 years. He was also a Manager at Sears in Kenmore Square and Brookline. Tony was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Burlington. He was extremely active in the club in both their Third and Fourth Degrees. He was also past Treasurer, on the Board of Directors, and a member of the morning Koffee Club. Tony was a man who enjoyed many friendships. Once a friend always a friend of Tony’s. He kept in close contact with his clan of friends from East Boston as well as his many friendships within the Town of Burlington. He was a member of the D.A.V. in Burlington and Sons of Italy. Tony had many interests. He enjoyed going to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. During his retirement years he wintered in West Palm Beach, Florida. Spending time with his family was the most important thing to Tony. He was always attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved to cook especially for his family and everyone looked forward to dinners with Tony where he made his special Italian dishes. Tony was blessed to live a life that spanned 80 years filled with the love of his family and many friendships. Tony was the beloved husband of the late Theresa (Baptista). He was the loving father of Anthony J. “Tony” Lipizzi, Jr. & his wife Susan of Franklin, Karen Ann Gallagher & her husband Robert of Billerica, Maureen Hicks & her husband Cliff of Merrimack, NH, Corinne Ambrose & her husband Leonard of Foxboro. Brother of Helen Rubino, Rose Lipizzi both of Weymouth, and the late Carmella “Nellie” Durante, Frank and Ralph Lipizzi. Grandfather of Anthony J. III & Mark Lipizzi, James, Kristine, Michelle & Daniel Gallagher, Melissa Weinberg, Clifford & Ashley Hicks, Lauren, Kimberly & Jessica Ambrose. Great grandfather of Ricky Villanova. Dear friend of Adele Luciani of Quincy. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, June 16 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Tony’s name may be made to the K of C Exceptional Children’s Fund, P. O. Box 25, Burlington, MA 01803.
