Obituary of Sue Mike
Sue M. Mike, a mother and founder of Burlington’s first Alzheimer’s Disease support group passed away after a long illness at the Ridgewood Nursing Center in Bedford New Hampshire on Sunday morning, June 13, 2010. She was 85 years old. Sue was born and raised in Indiana. She moved to Burlington in 1958 to raise her 4 children. She had made her home in New Hampshire for the past 13 years to be closer to her family.
Sue was a member of the Burlington Historical Society and Council on Aging. She was an active member of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. When her husband was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and Sue discovered that there was no support group in Burlington, she founded one herself. She helped relatives of those with Alzheimer’s disease for years. She enjoyed gardening. She had a great talent for sewing and knitting. She made hats, mittens, afghans, shirts, shorts, dresses for family and friends. She also shared her crafts with those who were less fortunate. She enjoyed vacationing with her family at their cottage in Canterbury, NH. She was a supportive and caring mother. She treasured being a grandmother with all its rewards that came along with it.
Sue was the beloved wife of the late Neman Mike. Loving mother of John L. of Gainesville, FL, Jennifer A. Marchand of Goffstown, NH, Michael A. of S. Windsor, CT, and Sister Izadora (Nancy) of White Haven, PA. Grandmother of Matthew & David Cameron, Tim, Katelyn, & Ricky Mike, and Karen Grover. Also survived by 4 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, June 16 at 11 a.m. Followed by a funeral service at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave, Woburn, MA at Noon. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Sue’s name may be made to a charity of one’s own choice.
