Obituary of Alma Pelletier
Alma L. Pelletier, a woman devoted to her family, faith, and community passed away Saturday afternoon, June 12 with her family at her side at her residence at Putnam Farms in Danvers. She was 90 years old.
Alma was born in Salem, the daughter of the late Louis and Anna Caron. She was educated at St. Joseph’s Elementary School and St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception High School. She married Jean Pelletier on February 22, 1941. With two small children, her husband Jean went off to fight in WW II and then recalled for the Korean War. She called herself a homemaker, but she was much more than that. She supported her husband in running the North Shore Market and North Shore Marine. They made a great couple, Jean was dynamic, eager, and adventurous and Alma was the voice of reason.
Alma was always giving of herself to others. She was a long time volunteer and supporter of the Shaughnessy Kaplan Rehabilitation Center. After the Blizzard of 1978, she worked with FEMA to help find housing and benefits for displaced residents. She served on the Board of Directors for the North Shore Elders for 20 years. She was a very active member of St. Joseph’s Church. She was a member of the Bereavement Committee and assisted parishioners in arranging funeral coalitions at the church hall. She was active in Salem politics for decades. If she believed in a candidate, she worked hard to get the candidate elected. She helped congressman, senators, and numerous local candidates in their campaigns.
Alma was devoted to her family. She was a supportive and loving wife of 66 years. Alma made a warm and loving home for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was warm, gracious, and always a “Lady”. Alma’s gladly hosted family and friends for Sunday dinners, clambakes, card games, family get together, holidays, or just for visits. She was a wonderful role model to her children and grandchildren and will be lovingly remembered.
Alma was the beloved wife of the late Jean P. Pelletier. She was the loving mother of Elaine Zuccaro& her husband Robert of Burlington, John “Jack” Pelletier & his wife Jeannine of Rowley, formerly of Danvers, and Philip Pelletier & his wife Nancy of Salem.
