Obituary of Eleanor Bevis
Eleanor L. (Phillips) Bevis, a resident of Burlington for over 55 years, passed away at the Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Center on Friday evening, July 16, 2010. The wife of the late Walter R. Bevis who passed away in 2009, she was 86 years old.
Eleanor was born, raised and educated in Somerville. She was the daughter of the late Ronald and Isabel Phillips. She married her husband Walter in 1944 and eventually settled in Burlington in a home that was built by her husband. Eleanor worked as a Teller at the First Federal Savings Bank in Burlington. She also worked as a secretary at MKS Instruments. She had a great work ethic and was known to walk to work from her home on Lexington Street to her job at the bank in the center of town even during a snow storm. Eleanor lived for her family. She vacationed with her husband and family at their cottage in Franklin, NH where they had many special times together. Eleanor had a nurturing way about her and a gift for helping and caring for those in need. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eleanor was blessed with a loving husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Eleanor was the beloved wife of the late Walter R. Bevis. She was the loving mother of Karen Witkus of Taunton, Walter R Bevis & his wife Sandra of Burlington, Joyce Williams of Burlington, and Laura Berlandi of Woburn. Sister of Dorothy Hamilton of Billerica, Barbara Morgan of Burlington & Donald Phillips of Nashua, NH formerly of Woburn. Also survived by 12 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, July 20 at 9 a.m. Followed by Graveside Services at Pine Haven Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Memorials in Eleanor’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Mass Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472
