Obituary of Mary Flaherty
Mary M. Flaherty succumbs to a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on Tuesday afternoon, July 20, 2010 at the Wingate of Reading Nursing Facility. She was 84 years old. Mary was born in Boston, the daughter of Irish immigrants, the late John and Sarah Blake. She grew up and was educated in Roxbury. She married her husband, Thomas “Red” Flaherty and they had 4 children. They had resided in Braintree for the past 12 years and had previous had made Roslindale their home for 30 years prior. Mary’s life revolved around her family. She was a devoted wife of Thomas “Red” Flaherty for 56 years. They made a wonderful couple, he was the provider, but Mary ran the house. She was a supportive and loving wife. She was a devoted and caring mother. She made a warm and caring home for her family that was filled love and laughter.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Thomas “Red” Flaherty, who passed away in March of 2009. She was the loving mother of Ann Bolognese and her husband Stephen of Stoneham, Barbara Andrews and her husband Bruce of Bridgewater, Paul Flaherty and his wife Ida of Stoughton, and the late William Flaherty. She was the sister of Paul Blake of Quincy, Donald Blake of Scituate, Jim Blake of FL, the late Veronica Sugrue, Thomas, John, Robert, William, and Barbara Blake. She was also survived by 10 grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered.
Funeral services will be private. Memorials in Mary’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
