Obituary of Viola McNamara
Viola Dorothy “Dot” McNamara, a lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away at the Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Care Facility in Wilmington on Tuesday afternoon, August 3, 2010. She was 87 years old. Dot was born in Burlington, the daughter of the late John and Anna McNamara. She was one of nine children. She saw Burlington evolve from a small farming community to a thriving community filled with retail, offices, and technology firms. She had worked for over 25 years at the Raytheon in Burlington in the cafeteria. She would walk to work each day. She joked that she was with Raytheon in Burlington when they opened their doors until they closed their doors.
Dot enjoyed flower gardening. She was a big sports fan, especially the Red Sox and boxing. She loved animals and was a strong supporter of the Humane Society. She made several trips to the National Parks and one to Ireland. She had a strong faith and was a longtime member of St. Barbara’s Parish in Woburn.
Dot was the loving daughter of the late John J. & Anna (Hally) McNamara. She was the sister of Claire Wyman of Winchester and the late Eleanor “Dolly” Smith, Anna Ramsdell, William, John, Irving, Charles & Lawrence McNamara. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A visiting hour will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Aug. 5 from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn at 10 a.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
