Obituary of Robert Haigh

Robert “Bob” C. Haigh, a man devoted to his family and friends, passed away after a long illness at his home with his family at his side on Wednesday morning, August 18, 2010. He was 76 years old. Bob was born in Arlington, the son of the late George and Florence Haigh. He grew up in Arlington and in Lexington. In November of 1959 he married Margaret Mullen and they started a family shortly thereafter. They settled in Burlington in the Winnmere section to raise their 4 children. He had worked in the construction field as a heavy equipment operator his entire career. He even owned his own company, Robert C. Haigh Trucking & Excavating for a number of years. Bob was a man of diverse talents and interests. When he was young he was a stock car race driver. He competed in races from Florida to Canada. He kept his enthusiasm for racing by following NASCAR Racing. He was a member of the Woburn Elks. He enjoyed walking Horn Pond in Woburn every day. Over his lifetime he visited every State except Alaska. He loved to camp with his family and friends. He had a kind heart and was always willing to give of himself to others. He was extremely fond of his neighbors and was always ready with his snow blower to help clear their driveways or to lend a helping hand. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He leaves his family and friends with lasting memories and heavy hearts. The family of Robert Haigh would like to offer a special thanks to Dr, Vasant Patel, Dr. F. W. Nugent, and Dr. Roger Jenkins for caring and devotion. Bob was the beloved h husband of 50 years of Margaret “Peggy” (Mullen). He was the loving father of Susan Noonan of Burlington, Macia Haigh of Burlington, Robert & his wife Elizabeth of Burlington and Paul & his wife Jennifer of Londonderry, NH. He was the devoted grandfather of Danielle Noonan, Aileen Noonan, Sarah and Caroline Haigh. He was the brother of Barbara Frank of Ashland, Florence Parker of Chatham, Dora Carr of N. Chelmsford, Wallace Haigh of SC, Shirley Wallace of CA, Herbert Haigh of N. Andover, and the late George Haigh, MIA in the Korean War. Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON on Monday August 23 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
