Obituary of Lucille Grossi
Lucille E. (DiTucci) Grossi, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away at her home on Sunday Morning, Sept. 26, 2010. The wife of the late Felice Grossi, she was 86 years old.
Lucille was born, raised and educated in Woburn. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Josephine DiTucci. As a young adult Lucille worked on her family farm in North Woburn, DiTucci & Sons Farm. She also worked at Interstate Uniforms in Woburn as well as her brother’s restaurant in Burlington “Joe D’S”. Lucille was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Woburn where she was past President of the Ladies Auxiliary Club. She was also a member of St. Anthony’s Club in Woburn. Lucille loved to crochet and would make Afghans for everyone. She enjoyed flower gardening and playing bingo. Her family was the most important part of her life and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who all lovingly referred to her as “Ma”.
Lucille is the beloved wife of the late Felice. She is the loving mother of Domenic & his wife Karen of Burlington, Josephine Benson & her husband David of Woburn, and the late Egilda Martakos. Sister of Helen Edwards, Jeanne Miles both of CA, the late Joseph, David, Daniel, John, & Edward DiTucci. Grandmother of Jennifer Doherty, Elizabeth Black, Christina Stafford, Edward Stafford, Domenic Grossi, Barbara Grossi, Jason and Ian Benson. Also survived by 13 Great grandchildren.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, September 29 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church, 851 Main St., Woburn at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Memorials in Lucille’s name may be made to the Charity of One’s Own Choice.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO COME HERE THIS MORNING TO SAY A FEW NICE REMEMBERANCE WORDS ABOUT AUNT LUCY
IN MAKING NOTES LAST NIGHT I FOUND OUT THAT NOTHING COULD BE SAID ABOUT THIS LADY THAT WAS NOT NICE
LUCY GREW UP ON A FARM WITH FIVE BROTHERS AND THE MIDDLE GIRL OF THREE SISTERS,, WE WATCHED HER WALK BEHIND A PLOW LEADING A HORSE, STAY ON HER KNEES FOR HOURS, THINNING OUT CARROTS AND WEEDING,, MILK A COW, SLOP THE PIGS,COLLECT EGGS FROM THE CHICKENS,STAND ANKLE DEEP IN MANURE CLEANING OUT \THE COW AND HORSE STALLS, HELP A MOTHER SOW GIVE BIRTH TO A LITTER OF PIGS,, ALL THE WHILE KEEPING UP WITH HER BROTHERS,WITH OTHER FARM WORK AND MOST OF THE TIME OUT WORKING A COUPLE OF THEM, SHE HAD CALLOUSED HAND THE SIZE OF A DINNER PLATE,,,YET ON SUNDAY WHEN WE WERE LUCKY TO HAVE A FEW HOURS OFF,THIS LADY WOULD GET CLEANED UP IN HER SUNDAY BEST, A DRESS PROBABLY MADE BY HER MOTHER, OUT OF A FLOWERED GRAIN SACK, AND ALONG WITH HER TWO SISTERS WOULD PRETTY THEMSELVES UP AND BE THREE OF THE FINEST LOOKING GIRLS IN NO WOBURN, ALL THIS WITH OUT A DROP OF MAKE-UP OR NAIL POLISH, OR PERFUME,, NONE OF THAT CITY STUFF WAS ALLOWED AT LONE CEDAR FARM, , BUT ILL TELL YOU ONE THING,, PA HAD NO TROUBLE HIRING OUTSIDE HELP DURING THE BUSY SEASON, LUCY AND HER SISTERS HELEN AND JEANIE WERE THE THE BEAUTIFUL FARMERS DAUGHTERS,, EVERY ONE WANTED TO WORK AT DITUCCI"e;S FARM EVEN THOUGH WITH THE GIRLS AS AN ATTRACTION, PA WAS PROBABLY PAYING 30 CENTS AN HOUR LESS THEN THE OTHER FARMS
AS LUCY GREW OLDER, THOSE TIRED CALLOUSED HANDS NOW ON THIS PRETTY MIDDLE AGED WOMAN,,WERE USED FOR MANY OTHER THINGS, LUCY WAS THE FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE OF OUR FAMILY, I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN HER GET A BABY OUT OF A CONVULSION,PUTTING HIM IN ICE WATER,THEN TOWEL RUBBING HIM DOWN IN FRONT OF AN OVEN DOOR, BACK TO THE ICE WATER ,THEN BACK TO THE OVEN,,, BACK AND FOURTH UNTIL THE BABY WAS CRYING LIKE A NEW BORN HAD AN EAR ACHE, POUR VIRGIN OLIVE OIL IN A SPOON,, HOLD A LIT MATCH UNDER IT WARM IT AND POUR IT IN THE EAR,, PRESTO EAR ACHE GONE HAD A NOSE BLEED ?? SHE PRESSED HER FINGER UNDER YOUR UPPER LIP HEAD ACHE??? SHE PRESSED A FINGER TO THE NAPE OF YOUR NECK TOOTH ACHE??? SHE WET HER FINGER IN WHISKY, AND PRESSED IT ON THE GUMS BEE STING,????? PRESS A FIFTY CENT COIN OVER THE STING, AND YOU GOT TO KEEP THE COIN PINK EYE, BOIL A TEA BAG ,,TAKE THE BAG PUT IT ON YOUR EYE AND PRESS ON IT FOLKS THIS LADY WAS PRESSING ACCUPUNCTURE SPOTS LONG BEFORE THE ORIENTAL DOCTORS BROUGHT IT TO THIS COUNTRY WOULD THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF MEDICINE OR DOCTORS APPROVE OF THIS METHOD,, I DOUBT IT, BUT IT SEEMED TO WORK IN THIS CASE
GROW PLANTS??? IF YOU HAD ANY KIND OF A DEAD PLANT, YOU DID NOT THROW IT AWAY, YOU BROUGHT IT TO LUCY,,,,,, 3 OR 4 WEEKS AND IT WAS BLOOMING AGAIN, SHE GREW THE BIGGEST DAHLIAS,, TALLEST GLADIOLLAS, , HIGHEST SNAP DRAGONS, SUNFLOWERS, THAT TRIED TO REACH THE CLOUDS, I OFTEN THREATENED TO BRING HER A # 2 PENCIL ,, I SWEAR, SHE COULD PROBABLY THROW IT IN A POT OF LOOM AND LEAVES WOULD START GROWING OUT OF IT
KNITTING AND CROCHETING,,, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE MAKE A BABY SET OF A BONNETT, A SWEATER,,BOOTIES, AND A BLANKET, I LEARNED THAT IS CALLED A LAYETTE IM 75 YEARS OLD AND SHE WAS STILL TEACHING ME, THE THING WAS THE SPEED SHE MADE THIS STUFF,, IM SORRY THIS LAYETTE,, IF YOU BROUGHT HER THE YARN ON SATURDAY AND SHE WOULD CALL YOU BY THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY, TO PICK IT UP BECAUSE IT WAS IN HER WAY,,MY WIFE MARILYN , NEEDED JUST A BLANKET ONE TIME, MAYBE 2 FEET WIDE 3 FEET LONG, WE DROPPED OF THE WHITE YARN AROUND 2 PM ON SAT AFTERNOON, HEADED UP TO WILMINGTON AND HAD A LUNCH AT THE 99 RESTAURANT, FROM THERE TO MARKET BASKET DID THE SHOPPING , DROVE HOME TO MEDFORD GOT HOME ABOUT 630 PM, THERE WAS A MESSAGE ON OUR PHONE YELLING AT US BECAUSE WE FORGOT TO TELL HER IF IT WAS FOR A BOY OR GIRL, , SHE WAS READY TO PUT THE TRIM ON AND DID NOT KNOW IF IT WAS TO BE PINK OR BLUE TO THIS DAY, MY CHILDREN AND MY BROTHERS CHILDREN STILL TELL US HOW GREAT LIFE WAS ON THE FARM,ALL KINDS OF ANIMALS, FRESH FRUITS RIGHT FROM THE TREE, ALL KINDS OF THINGS TO DO AND GAMES TO PLAY,, THEY STILL WILL TELL YOU THAT SOME OF THE BEST REMEMBERANCES OF THEIR CHILDHOOD WAS THE GOOD TIMES THAT THEY HAD ON THE FARM,, THIS WAS MOSTLEY DUE TO AUNT LUCY BEING THERE,
UNCLE PHIL PASSED AWAY ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO LEAVING AUNT LUCY TO US TO LOVE AND ENJOY FOR A FEW MORE YEARS, LUCY SAW TO IT THAT EVERYTHING WAS ALLRIGHT WITH HER CHILDREN, AND GRANDCHILDREN TAKING CARE OF THEM AND HELPING THEM TO INSURE THEIR FUTURE JUST AS UNCLE PHIL WOULD HAVE WANTED, IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, AS HER HEALTH WAS FAILING AND THE PAIN WAS GETTING HARD TO BARE, SHE KNEW HER JOB HERE WAS DONE, SHE WOULD PRAY EVERY MORNING FOR UNCLE PHIL TO TAKE HER WITH HIM AS SHE MISSED HIM AND WANTED TO BE WITH HIM , , HE WAS BY FAR NEVER A SELFISH MAN, AND LEFT HER HERE WITH US TO ENJOY FOR A FEW MORE YEARS HER PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED,LAST SUNDAY MORNING AROUND 1215 AM, , UNCLE PHIL REACHED DOWN WITH HIS STRONG ARMS AND GRABBED THOSE SOFT NOW UNCALLOUSED HANDS AND TOOK HIS BELOVED LUCY WITH HIM WALKING OF TOGETHER INTO ETERNITY TO LOVE LAUGH AND LIVE TOGETHER AGAIN WE HAD HER FOR A WHILE UNCLE PHIL SHE IS NOW YOURS AGAIN WE CAN ONLY WISH YOU BOTH WELL ,,,
