Obituary of John Price

John “Jack” Price, dedicated his life to serving his family, church, and community, passed away after a brief illness Sunday morning, October 3, 2010. He was 87 years old. Jack was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, the son of the late Mark and Winifred Price. He grew up in Everett and Somerville. He was a graduate of Somerville High School. He served in the Army during WW II as a Medical and Surgical Technician. After returning from the war, Jack worked for over 15 years at Boston and Maine Railroad as a Brakeman and Conductor. He then went to work at General Tire in Reading as a maintenance mechanic and union steward. After retiring at age 62, he worked part time a Watts Security. Jack was an unselfish man, who was always giving of himself to his church, community, and family. Jack and his wife Mary moved to Burlington in 1957. He was an active parishioner of Saint Margaret’s Church. He went door to door soliciting funds to build the current St. Margaret’s Church. He was also a long time usher at the church. He was extremely active in the Burlington Knights of Columbus. He served in almost every position within the organization including, Third Degree Grand Knight, Fourth Degree Faithful Navigator, Trustee, Tootsie Roll Chairman, Honor Guard, and Bingo Committee. If there was a Knights of Columbus event, Jack was their lending his support to help make the event a success. He received one of the highest honors when he was named Knight of the Year. Jack also gave of himself to his family. He was a devoted husband of 57 years to his wife Mary. They had a mutual admiration. They square danced together in the Red Hot Squares, they traveled around the United States and the world, and enjoyed being Florida “Snow birds” for 17 years. Jack was devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. He was always there to support them in sports, activities, and interests. They will remember camping in at Wyman’s Beach in Westford for 45 years, family celebrations, and family vacations. Jack also enjoyed golf, bowling, the Red Sox’s and was an avid Irish Music listener. He leaves his family and friends with wonderful memories and much love. Jack was the beloved husband of Mary E. (Mallett) Price. He was the loving father of Mary Caldeira & her husband Richard of Westford, Andy & Robin of Billerica, and the late John Price and his wife Patricia Price. He was predeceased by his brothers; Mark Price Jr., and Robert Price. He was the proud Papa of Jessica & Bill Caldeira, Keith, Sean, Kimberly, Michael, Tyler, and Amy Price. He was the great grandfather of Oona Price. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jack’s name may be made to the Knights of Columbus Exceptional Children’s Fund, P.O. Box 25, Burlington, MA 01803.
