Obituary of John Connors

John J. Connors, Boston Herald Retiree, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his bedside on Sunday morning, November 14, 2010. He was 87 years old. John was born in Medford, the son of the late William and Edith Connors. He grew up in Medford. He attended Malden Catholic High School. John enlisted in the Army in March of 1943. He held the rank of Tec 4 and fought in battles in England, France, Belgium, and Holland. He was a member of the 167th Engineer Combat Battalion which was responsible for building and repairing the bridges necessary to keep allied troops advancing toward Germany. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon. He was always proud of his service to his country. John returned from the war and became a member of the IBEW Local 103, Electricians Union for over 64 years. . He worked first at the Record American which later became the Boston Herald. John and his wife Lillian were married on April 25, 1948. They were married just over 60 years when Lillian passed away. John was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Bedford Country Club and the Stow Acres Golf Club. He wasn’t a long driver, but took great pride in his accuracy. He won numerous golf tournaments over the years. He wintered in Hollywood Florida for almost 24 years, where he would golf 3 or 4 days a week. He was a big Red Sox and Patriots fan. He also enjoyed following college football and professional golf. He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and golf partners. John was the beloved husband of the late Lillian B. (Jensen). Loving father of Laurie Silva & her husband Gary of Lexington and Mark M. Connors of Burlington. Brother of the late Mary Graziano. Grandfather of Gary & his wife Kerry Silva of Woburn, Brian Silva of Lexington. Great grandfather of Gary and Kevin Silva of Woburn. Funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name may be made to Beacon Hospice, 529 Main St., Suite 101, Boston, MA 02129. Boston Herald Retiree. Past member of Bedford Country Club and Stow Acres.
