Obituary of Shirley Dunbar
Norma “Shirley” (Anderson) Dunbar, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. The wife of Thomas R. Dunbar, she was 79 years old.
Shirley was born in Stoneham. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Hazel Anderson. She was raised and educated in Wakefield and was a graduate of the Melrose Wakefield Nursing School. Shirley went on to work at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital part-time from 1955 – 1977. Shirley and her husband settled in Burlington in 1958 where they raised their four children. She was a member of the Burlington Garden Club where she was the Membership Chairperson. Together with her husband Tom she volunteered at Concord State MCI for over 10 years in a Ministry Program through Grace Chapel. Together they also owned Elegant Greenery for 13 years which specialized in Interior Landscaping. Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that will be deeply missed.
Shirley was the beloved wife of Thomas R. Dunbar. She was the loving mother of Norma Dunbar of Burlington, Thomas Dunbar, Jr. & his wife Meredith of Marlborough, CT, Elizabeth Nesti & her husband Robert of Nashua, NH, Sharon Baum & her husband Robert of Woburn. She was the sister of the late Hazel Hodgkins, John and Howard Anderson. Shirley is also survived by 4 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Grace Chapel, 59 Worthen Road, Lexington on Wednesday, December 29 at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
