Obituary of Mary J. Hartigan
Mary J. (Burke) Hartigan, a resident of Billerica for 54 years, passed away at her home on Sunday afternoon, July 30, 2006. The wife of the late Andrew V. Hartigan, she was 86 years old.
Mary was born in Christmas Island Nova Scotia, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine Burke. Mary lived on Christmas Island until the age of 6 when she and her family moved to East Boston. Mary and her husband settled in Billerica where they raised their 11 children. Her life was centered around making a home for her family. Mary was woman of strong faith and attended daily mass for over 40 years at both St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Billerica and St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Burlington. Mary enjoyed vacationing with her family at Bustins Island in Maine. She cherished the many special times she spent with her husband, children and in later years her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is the wife of the late Andrew V. She is the loving mother of Patricia Hartigan-Bloom of Mill Valley, CA, Jeannie Bren of Greenwood, MN, Peggy Reese of Billerica, James of Danvers, John of Palm Harbor, FL, Leonard of Billerica, Michael of Lowell, Mary of North Chelmsford, Cathy of Billerica, Janet Ostlund of Burlington, and Andrea of Billerica. She is the sister of Sister Jennie Burke of New York, Margie Buttiglieri of East Boston, Kitty Mahoney of Maine, and the late Joseph, Raymond and John Burke. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, August 3 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford.
