Obituary of Anne Callahan

Anne Callahan, a lifelong resident of Arlington, passed away at the Winchester Hospital on Friday afternoon, January 14, 2011. She was the daughter of Irish Immigrants the late John and Margaret Callahan. After graduating High School Anne went to work at S. S. Pierce in Boston. She then went on to work at Hanscom Air Force Base until her retirement. Anne was a devote Catholic and a member of St. Agnes Church in Arlington. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Sodality Club and the Friends of the Fidelity. She also volunteered at the church every Monday to count the money after the weekend collections. Anne had a special bond with her late sister, Peg, whom she shared her home. They enjoyed traveling together and had visited Ireland and taken many trips to Florida. She enjoyed playing bingo and after her retirement joined a Thursday morning bowling league. Anne was the ultimate hostess and loved to entertain. For many years on Saturday mornings you would find her close circle of family and friends enjoying coffee and pastries at her home. She hosted holiday family dinners and annual holiday parties. Anne had a very close relationship with her nieces, nephews and their families. She will be missed by her family and many friends. Anne was the beloved sister of late Margaret “Peg”, Gerald and William Callahan. She was the sister-in-law of Faye Callahan of NH, and the late Margaret. Anne was the devoted aunt of Anne Fitzgerald, Paul Callahan, Janice Eisert, Joan Regan, Karyn Lawless, Nancy Olmos, & John Callahan. Loving cousin of the Murphy, Barnard & McGarry families. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, January 19 8:45 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Agnes Church, Medford St., Arlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. Memorials in Anne’s name may be made to the Fidelity House, 25 Medford St., Arlington, MA 02474.
