Obituary of Rose Smithell

Rose Ann (Paicopolos) Smithell, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away at the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley on Friday, January 28, 2011. The wife of the late William Smithell, she was 96 years old. Rose was born in Stoneham. She was the oldest of 9 children born to Greek immigrants the late George & Bella Paicopolos. Being the oldest of nine children Rose helped her parents bring up her young siblings. Rose worked at Grants in Woburn for many years but her primary role in life was that of wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and knitting. She adored her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. Rose was the beloved wife of the late William Smithell. She was the loving mother of Sandra Doane & her husband David of Billerica. Rose was the sister of Mary Vespucci of Woburn, Janet Paleologos of Woburn, Helen King of Woburn, Marie Manzi of Methuen, Harold Paicopolos of Woburn, Michael Paicopolos of Somerville and the late Peter and Spiro Paicopolos. Loving grandmother of David Doane & his wife Cathy of Quincy, Deirdre Tache & her husband Jerry of Salem and Michael Doane of Salem. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Sat. Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 6-8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Memorials in Rose’s name may be made to the Annunciation of Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Avenue, Woburn, MA 01801.
