Obituary of Winnifred Scolponeti

Winnie ”Winnifred “Freda” “Winnie” (Mackenzie) Scolponeti died Tuesday February 15, 2011 in her 93rd year. Winnifred was born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia the daughter of the late Fredrick A & Catherine [MacKay] Mackenzie. She immigrated to the United States in her teens. She worked at Massachusetts General Hospital. While working at the hospital, she found the love of her life, Paul W. Scolponeti. They were married and eventually settled in Burlington, MA to raise their family. When her children were young, she worked in the cafeterias at the Union and Memorial schools. She was a 40 year member of T.O.P.S in Burlington. She was an active parishioner at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Burlington where she was Sunday school teacher and sang in the Choir. She loved to travel and at age 91 she took her first cruise. Winnifred enjoyed square dancing, bowling, swimming, walking and camping. She spent her retirement years wintering in Melbourne,FL and summering at Harbour Light Campground in Pictou, Nova Scotia. She was survived by her son John Scolponeti of Stoneham, MA and daughter/ care giver Lorna Scolponeti of Melbourne,FL and Pictou N.S. She also leaves many loving nieces & nephew plus her dog MR Mackenzie. Winnifred was predeceased by her husband Paul; her youngest son Paul; and her siblings William Mackenzie, Jenny MacLeod, John “Sar” Mackenzie, Hugh Mackenzie, Christina Wright, and Mary Ellen Hayman. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Church of Christ, 6 Lexington St., Burlington on Friday, February 25 at 10 a.m. Followed by an interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
