Obituary of Greta Guptill
Greta Naomi Guptill age 96, leaves a legacy of family. Greta was born in Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Holland and Gertrude Pyne. At age 12, her family immigrated to the United States and settled in Somerville. While working at Squirrel Brand Peanuts, she met her future husband, George Guptill. They were married and made their home in Arlington. She then devoted her life to her family. As well as caring for her children and husband, Greta was always the one to watch over and care for the rest of her family. She was the one you went to for a helping hand, a kind word, or to be comforted when sick, ill, or in declining health. She always placed her family’s needs above her own. Greta’s virtues and principles made her a superb role model for her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She leaves them with lasting memories and a path to happiness. Greta was a member of the Eastern Star, Fraternal Chapter Number 136. She was a member of the Victory Club and the Daughters of Rebekah. She was a talented seamstress making outfits for her daughters up until High School. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her Chocolate Fudge Cake was her family’s favorite dessert. She was even a talented wallpaperer. She relished summering at her vacation home in Wells, Maine with her family and friends.
Greta was the beloved wife of the late George H. Guptill. She was the loving mother of Nancy Borenstein & her husband Donald of Lynnfield, Janice Bogonis & her husband Fred of Woburn, Joan Guptill-Savage of Woburn & her companion William Iceton, Barbara Crowell & her husband Richard of Dixmont, ME. She was predeceased by her siblings; Donna McDowell and Nelson Pyne. She was also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON on Tuesday March 1 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Woburn on Wednesday at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service. Memorials in Greta’s name may be made to the First Baptist Church, 3 Winn St., Woburn, MA 01801.
