Hello, Jane, and all of Ron's friends.
I am of course surprised and saddened to hear that Ron has gone. He was an incredibly important mentor for me. Like other young engineers at MIT who came to work for him. It would be fair to say that Ron helped me find a direction in my life at a time when I had dropped out of school, and had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. I've had a successful, 33-year career as a software engineer because Ron saw something in me, and offered a part-time position to me as a programmer just when I needed it.
He was challenging, compassionate and lighthearted, all at the same time. I would say that the best of my managerial skills got developed by watching him.
I've thought of Ron and Jane occasionally over the years, and feel sad that we didn't stay in contact. However, he lives on in my heart, as the vibrant, demanding, sharp, hilarious guy who made the MIT Registrar's office a haven of sanity for me, in a world far from home.
Love,
Tom Childers

Ron was always an amazing man in our opinion. His kind words and caring ways just seemed to make you want to be around him. But the knowledge and insight that he passed along in his own special way, not forceful or overbearing, made you walk away feeling better, more informed and you knew you had just shared something special. But I never imagined all the things he never really shared, or boasted about in his career. A very Special Man, he can now watch every Red Sox game commercial free. And I am sure all of us that knew him, even in a small way, will continue to profit from him.

Jan ... I am so sorry for your loss. Although I've met Ron on and off over the decades, the image I'll always remember is of the dad next door, late 1950s, parking a big rig in front of our houses on Pine St. Every kid in the neighborhood came running, because who doesn't love a big truck. He had a personality and a drive to match those big rigs.

Jane.. I am so very sorry.. You both made us feel so welcomed when we moved next door. I so enjoyed my talks with Ron out by my fence or over in your driveway while John and I were waiting for his bus. Ron always had a smile, a wave, a story to tell. We will miss him so much. Please know we are right next door and if you need us PLEASE do not hesitate to call us. Again.. to you and to Ron's family, we are very, very sorry. Lisa and Michael
