Obituary of Joseph Peterson

Joseph A. Peterson, a retired carpenter, passed away at his home surrounded by all his family on Tuesday evening, September 25, 2012. He was 78 years old. Joe was born in Woburn, the son of the late John and Catherine (Vericella) Peterson. He grew up in Woburn and attended St. Charles School until eighth grade and then took the train each day to the North End of Boston where he graduated from Christopher Columbus High School. He joined the Carpenters Union and worked for Moore Construction in Woburn for 30 years doing commercial and residential construction and renovations. He also owned his own construction company, Joseph A. Peterson & Sons Construction where he worked with sons, Joseph and David, primarily working on residential remodeling. The company is now being run by his son Joseph. He enjoyed working with his hands and loved the opportunity to work with and share his knowledge and skills with his sons. Joe had made his home in Burlington for the past 54 years. In his leisure time, Joe was an avid golfer. He was ardent gardener, spending hours tending and protecting his plants, and then sharing his harvest with his many family and friends. He was always working around his home. He was one of the first residents on the street to add a second floor to his ranch style home. He coached his sons in Little League baseball teams. He truly prized his leisure time spent with his family at their camp cottages on Tom’s Pond in Warner NH and Sandy Beach in Hopkinton, NH. The summer weekends spent with family and friends on the beach or around the campfire where always filled with laughter and lasting memories. He enjoyed spending the last 25 years wintering in Port Charlotte and Hallendale, FL. He was a huge Patriots fan and everything at home stopped when the game was on. He leaves his family with countless wonderful memories filled with love and laughter. Joe was the beloved husband of 57 years of Marilyn J. (Meadows). He was the loving father of Pamela Waite & her husband Bruce of Tyngsboro, Joseph & his wife Linda of Merrimack, NH, Debra Peterson & her partner Hank Allen of Billerica, David & his wife Dee of Billerica, Julie Peterson & companion Rick Langhill of Billerica, and Amy Peterson & her daughter Olivia Taranto of Burlington. He was the brother of John Peterson of Port Charlotte, FL and the late Rita M. Corrigan. Grandather of 10 and great grandfather of 8. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
