Jose was one of the gentlest, most peaceful people I have ever met. To be in his company was to feel the warm embrace of God and creation. I will miss him deeply, but I will remember many, many wonderful moments with him.

I was so saddened to hear of Jose's passing. He was an incredible person and it was a pleasure to have known him and his wife, Beth. I'll always have great memories of working with him at the Kennedy School so long ago. Cambridge Public Schools was lucky to have someone of his caliber working for them. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of all those who knew him. My thoughts go out to his family during this sad time.

What a wonderful gift to this world Jose was! His quiet dignity, his humility, his love and concern for the children he counseled, for the people he worked with, for everyone in his circle will all be cherished memories of him. Love and peace to all his family.

Deeply saddened to have lost a good old friend and colleague.
Remembering the fun playing volley ball with the teachers in Cambridge or fighting at the state level trying to have established, for first time in this country, the Bilingual Education Act.
I am sure that all of us who had the privilege to know him and share his friendship, will miss this kind and exceptional educator.

Dear Beth,
I was so sorry to read of Jose's death in the Boston Globe. While working with you, I sensed he was a very strong supporter of your dedication and sensitivity to the students with whom you worked. I admired you so much for that, and him for the support he gave you.
You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you work through your grief and adjust to your loss.
Fondly,
Martha Stanton

Beth, we were saddened to learn of Jose's death. I'm glad to learn that he was able to know his granddaughter, but wish that he had had more good years.
We still remember the happy week that you were staying at that place on the Cape with us. I am happy we were able to meet him!
We send our love to everyone in your family.
