Obituary of Edward Schuler

Edward F. Schuler, a resident of Burlington for over 56 years, passed away unexpectedly at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Saturday morning, June 25, 2011. The husband of the late Hazel R. (Barnes) to whom he was married to for 60 years, he was 90 years old. Ed was born, raised and educated in Cambridge. He was the son of the late Frederick and Louise Schuler. He was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. Ed was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Army. Ed went on to have a 50 year career as a Conductor for the Boston & Main Railroad. In recognition of his 50 years of service Ed had the honor of being recognized as the “No. One Trainman in the United States for Seniority”. In the early 50’s Ed began coaching little league in Burlington and continued coaching for over 20 years. He coached all three of his sons as well as many other children in town by whom he was very well liked and respected. Ed and his wife Hazel where charter members of the Burlington Country Club and they were members for many years. They enjoyed vacationing as a family in Laconia, NH from 1986 – 1999. Ed was an avid golfer and would golf three or four times a week. He was also a true Boston sports fan following all the local teams. Ed was known for having a great sense of humor. He enjoyed playing cards at both the Woburn Senior Center as well as the Burlington Senior Center. After his wife passed away Ed moved to Birchcrest where he developed many friendships. Ed had a wonderful relationship and friendship with his three sons. They enjoyed holidays together, going out to eat, and just spending time together. He was blessed to be part of his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. They were all happy to be together as a family and with close friends in September to celebrate Ed’s 90th birthday. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Ed was the beloved husband of the late Hazel R. (Barnes). Devoted father of Edward & his wife Patricia of Plum Island formerly of Tyngsborough, Bradley & his wife Cynthia Frene of Sudbury, and David of Upland, CA. Brother of the late Hazel Hall and Esther Kintagos. Grandfather of Kristin Brady, Lauren, Ryan, Eric, Brett, Daniel & Meagan Schuler. Great Grandfather of Caleb & Olivia. Dear companion of Edie Scutellaro of Burlington. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, June 28 at 9 a.m. Followed by Graveside services in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in Ed’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256 www.woundedwarriorproject.org
