Obituary of Andrew Cortese

Andrew D. Cortese, a member of Local 22 died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 26, 2011. He was 38 years old. Andrew was born in Boston and grew up in Burlington. As a youth, he was an active member of the Burlington Swim and Tennis Club. He was a graduate of Austin Preparatory School, Class of 1990. He excelled in football, playing as a nose tackle. He attended Stonehill College and was a member of the College’s Championship Football Team. He also attended the University of Massachusetts. He was an avid sports fan all his life. He excelled at golf and also enjoyed fishing and tennis. He was a New England Sports Fanatic and always a faithful fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics. He was especially excited about this year’s Bruins and their Stanley cup win. As a member of the Laborer’s Union, Local 22 he worked on roadways, bridges, and building construction projects all around the Boston area. At a previous job, he worked as a bartender in the North End. He loved the environment and his patrons as they did him. He was recognized by the Boston Tab as “Bartender of the Year.” an honor he modestly accepted He had a great sense of humor and had countless friends. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his warmth, humor, and devotion. He will be deeply missed by all. Andrew was the loving son of Donald and Diane (Thornton) Cortese of Burlington. He was the brother of Cynthia Parker & her husband Michael of VA. He was also survived by many loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, July 1 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Andrew’s name may be made to the Jimmy Fund, c/o Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
