Obituary of Albert G. Ciampa
Albert G. Ciampa, a retired Teacher from Western Junior High in Somerville, passed away at his home in Tyngsboro on Tuesday evening, August 22, 2006. He was 87 years old.
Al was born in Cambridge. He was the son of Italian immigrants, the late Davide and Maria Ciampa. Al was raised and educated in East Somerville. He was a graduate of Somerville High School. He was a veteran of both World War II and Korea serving two terms in the United States Navy from 1942 – 1945 and 1951 – 1953. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal.
Al received Bachelors of Science Degrees from both Boston University and Northeastern University. He went on to further his education receiving Masters Degrees from both Boston University and Northeastern University. He was employed for over 30 years as a History Teacher at Western Junior High School in Somerville. He also taught Adult Education Night School in Somerville. He was active in politics and was the Chairman of the School Committee in Someville. Al lived in Winchester for 38 years before moving to Nashua and then Tyngsboro to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid baseball fan. He played baseball on the Somerville High Baseball Team and also followed the Boston Red Sox. He was very happy to have been able to see the Red Sox finally win the World Series. He enjoyed bowling. Al was a member of the Submarine Veteran's of WW II and the DAV.
Al is the beloved husband of Antonetta (Cedrone). He is the loving father of Susan Madeiras of Oak Bluffs, MA & her husband the late Richard Madeiras, Lissa & her husband Anthony Saracco of Tyngsboro, Nancy & her husband Russell Christie of Tyngsboro, and Paula & her husband Paul Cushman of Westwood. He is the brother of Carmela Rice of Woburn, U.J. "e;Baldie"e; Ciampa of FL, Robert of Arlington, Edward of Medford, Eleanor Castellano of Burlington, and the late Dr. Frank Ciampa, Ted Ciampa, and Dante “Dan” Ciampa. He is the grandfather of Elyse and Ben Madeiras, Mike, Joe, and Lindsay Saracco, Allison and Vanessa Christie, Jack, Brad, and Joe Cushman. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt., 128, Woburn side) on Friday, August 25 at 9:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45 p.m. Memorials in Al’s name may be made to Lowell VNA Hospice, 336 Central St., Lowell, MA 01852
